Pacquiao Watch: When shorter is stronger

No. This is not about Manny Pacquiao’s height or lack of it against Antonio Margarito.

Over the years, Manny has been known for his lunging combinations anchored on powerful left straights. Of late, however, Coach Freddie Roach has successfully developed Manny into a two-fisted monster with a stinging right hook that in itself is a lethal weapon while also serving as a set-up punch.

As Manny grows and ages like wine, he will lose a step or two and his speed won’t be like it was when he was at the featherweight classes. Manny is no longer the quicksilver that he was when he was running circles against the likes of the Ledwabas, Barreras and Moraleses. He is now more deliberate with his punches. The reason why few are noticing his declining is speed is he is matched up against bigger and naturally “lumbering foes.” Well, slow by the standards of his foes some three or five years ago.
